The Reedy Point Players and director Ruth Brown are proud to present the world premiere of The O’Malley Gambit, an imagined retelling of events that are celebrated in Irish folklore and confirmed by British historical records. In a daring move, Grace O’Malley, an Irish chieftain and pirate who has often rebelled against English rule, sails to England to petition Queen Elizabeth I for the release of her son, imprisoned and under sentence of death by Elizabeth’s governor. The two women meet and, ultimately, divest themselves of the men who would advise them. Their private conversation explores the ways in which they are alike and unique in a society geared to keeping women from positions of power. Audiences will have the opportunity to watch both of these fascinating women move their respective "chess pieces" until the final gambit is calculated to their mutual advantage. FYI - The show does have some language (well, there are pirates) and some suggestive language so it may not be suited for children under 13.
